The Linksys WRT54G (and variants WRT54GS, WRT54GL, and WRTSL54GS) is a Wi-Fi capable residential gateway from Linksys. The device is capable of sharing Internet connections among several computers via 802.3 Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless data links. The firmware used in these units varies between versions.
Because they lack 802.11n, powerline networking, 5.8 GHz radios and gigabit Ethernet connections, these routers are no longer very popular for state of the art networks. However, some models remain extremely useful for those using third-party firmware, which is necessary to make full use of the radio power or other hardware capabilities these routers have. See third party firmware and compatibility notes for each model. Models that look identical and vary only by one minor version number are often quite different, so make note of the exact minor version.
